NORA VAN ELKEN - CELEBRATION

Music, RemixSara NatkinsComment

A fresh face in the global dance music scene, Nora Van Elken is known for curating an inspiring, balanced blend of pop hits and nostalgic progressive house. Each track is a vibrant whirlwind of uptempo beats and cascading synths that shine with flickers of femininity and her new single “Celebrate” follows suit. A cover of Kool & The Gang’s 1980 “Celebration,” Nora’s rendition thrills old-school music heads and future-forward dancefloor mavens to boot. Injected with her signature sound, “Celebration” is an instant Nora Van Elken classic.

CAPYAC - OOEEOOEEOO (TEDDY ROXPIN REMIX FT. LANDO CHILL)

Music, Original MixSara NatkinsComment

CAPYAC’s “Ooeeooeeoo” just got a vibrant hip-hop makeover courtesy of producer Teddy Roxpin and experimental hip-hop artist Lando Chill. The original track, released earlier this year, was the final single ahead of CAPYAC’s aptly-titled album CAPYAC FOREVER. Lauded by Rolling Stone, “Ooeeooeeoo” is an indie-disco triumph with wiggly rhythm patterns and silky vocals to match. Taking the original and flipping it upside down with their hip-hop disposition, Teddy Roxpin and Lando Chill rewire the surrealist tune and give it a new kind of bounce. One half of production duo Underwater Chess Club, Teddy Roxpin is a designer of sound specializing in hip-hop and rap. A behind-the-scenes visionary for kingpin artists like Mac Miller, Future, Logic, and more, the beat-maker brings his versatile sound to match the zany prowess of CAPYAC at the heels of his latest album Endless Beginnings. Seamlessly matching Roxpin’s energy, Lando Chill brings his introspective style to this “Ooeeooeeoo” remix. Known to distill elements of funk, gospel, jazz, folk, and psychedelic indie-rock with modern hip-hop, the activist and multi-hyphenate artist hypes up the original track with colorful, catchy bars.

TOR - LENS (O'FLYNN REMIX)

Music, Original MixAlli LindseyComment

Vancouver-based electronic producer Tor returns following the April release of his most recent album Oasis Sky with a rework of his atmospheric single ‘Lens,’ courtesy of the esteemed English producer O’Flynn. The remix serves as the second release off of Tor’s forthcoming remix LP of Oasis Sky, featuring exclusive remixes from the likes of Catching Flies, Fejká, Aparde, and more. Taking the more downtempo, tranquil sensibilities of the original track, O’Flynn transforms ‘Lens’ into a more experimental, chopped version. The rework sees the addition of a propulsive bassline, surrounded by floating, warped vocal cuts and layered percussive elements. The hypnotizing rendition adds a new edge to the track, with oscillating synths and transmissible breakbeats. Showcasing the music style of O’Flynn, the rework takes listeners to a sultry sonic atmosphere with heavy drums and willowing synths.

CAPYAC - LOSING IT (ANORAAK REMIX)

Music, RemixSara NatkinsComment

Following their impressive sophomore studio album CAPYAC FOREVER, surrealist dance duo CAPYAC keeps the party moving with a fresh Anoraak remix of their track “Losing It” taken from the acclaimed album itself. A go-go get down rich with disco soundscapes and bubbly retro grooves, this CAPYAC original just got a French funk treatment. While honoring to original song’s organic instrumentals, Anoraak simultaneously adds his signature flair to provide a tandem groove that nestles in effortlessly with the first rendition of “Losing It.” A high-energy track with a soulful aura, Anoraak and CAPYAC are a match made in disco heaven.

DADDY NAT - ELDERS FEAT. ABHI THE NOMAD (CASUAL T REMIX)

Music, Original MixSara NatkinsComment

A natural at his craft, Travis Drews is a spectacle. A talented artist under the name Casual T, the electronic musician is a show stopping act. Inspired by a near-death experience caused by the gravity of the bass at a music festival and a lung collapse, Casual T made the best of his situation and expresses himself through music. The exuberant Casual T fuses hip-hop influences with his electronica beats to create a unique sound that is unmistakably his. The Texas-based producer continues to impress with his magnificent catalog of releases. Continuing a busy year, Casual T is back with a stellar new remix. Adding a fresh perspective to Elders originally crafted by Daddy NAT and Abhi the Nomad, Casual T renders a wonderfully entertaining version of the already-impressive tune.

[PREMIERE] ZOLA COURTNEY - NOTHING TO LOSE (EKCLE REMIX)

Music, PREMIERE, RemixAlli LindseyComment

At the heels of a milestone remix for DJ Shadow and De La Soul, Bristol-based twosome Ekcle returns to the forefront of emerging alternative dance music with a wicked new take on Zola Courtney’s “Nothing To Lose.” The namesake track to her 2019 EP Nothing To Lose, Courtney’s celebrated indie-pop single is a tailor-made sound template for the always-imaginative Ekcle. A glimpse into their zealous artistic perspective, the budding musical duo gives the already-impressive cut a kaleidoscopic treatment. Embedded in the experimental fabric that Ekcle is best known for, this opulent remix still manages to pay homage to the original pop-oriented gem. Steeped in the left-of-center style they’re best known for, Ekcle orchestrates a flip that is widely accessible without compromising their complex, digital sound-design. A vibrant, polished remix overwhelmed with replay value, Ekcle’s “Nothing To Lose” reimagination is a one-of-a-kind soundtrack.

We can all agree that 2020 has been the worst year. I won’t go on and on about how stressful and crazy the past 4 months have been personally, because we are all going through it - but what I can say is that the one thing I will miss the most this year is my boat party with Goldroom. High Seas may be canceled in 2020, but we’ll come back stronger than ever! Until then - here is a new Goldroom remix of “Miscommunications” by Ant Saunders for all the summertime vibes!
