MÓDL - CLEMENTINE (JUUKU FLIP)

Music, RemixAlli LindseyComment

Over the course of the last year, mysterious persona and indie-electronic producer juuku has made a profound name for himself. His latest offering is an official remix of Módl’s “Clementine.” A shadowy, industrial take on the original, juuku’s flip expands on his often-optimistic catalog with a more fierce approach towards electronic remixes. Patchwork sounds of deep, distorted synths and palpable transitions oscillate the original cut creating an entirely futuristic listening experience. juuku’s tedious dexterity and attention to detail is overwhelmingly apparent, as he simultaneously showcases his feelings towards existentialism by transforming into a work of digestible art and sound. Listen to juuku do something a little different with his latest remix.

CRYWOLF - DRIP (MIELO REIMAGINATION)

Music, RemixAlli LindseyComment

Following the well-received unveiling of his widow [OBLIVION pt. 1] album, LA-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Crywolf is casting colleagues and new-found producers alike for his release of The OBLIVION [Reimagined]. The debut curtain call for the forthcoming remix catalog goes to Chicago-based producer Mielo. With three years of success under his belt, the versatile producer gives an 80s inspired treatment to “DRIP.” While the original joint was cut with geometric soundscapes and syncopated melodies, Mielo rinses out the track with a bit of buoyancy. A slow, narcotic intro complements Crywolf’s haunting signature sound, later blossoming into a futuristic network of punchy drum kicks and electrifying synths. A gritty film cascades atop echoing vocals, projecting colorful shadows throughout this dynamic remix. An immersive listening experience, Mielo’s clever sound design stands as the archetypal introduction to Crywolf’s The OBLIVION [Reimagined]. Watch this space.

THE XX - CRYSTALISED (NOKO REMIX)

RemixKelsey JamesComment

NOKO has done it again! This duo has slowly become one of my favorite groups to anticipate new music from. Their claim to fame kicked off merely three months ago with the release of their remix to San Holo’s “Life Me From the Ground.” The remix is close to 100,000 plays on Soundcloud alone, and their other previous remixes are following a similar route.

Their newest release is a remix to The xxs “Crystalised.” They stay true to the emotions behind the vocals and back it with powerful and equally as emotional synths, giving new life to almost 10 year old song. NOKO have the ability to tackle a song that people haven’t listened to in ages and effortlessly revitalize it.

Later this summer, the two have some original music in store, with their debut EP to follow.

Sending the track’s conscious hip-hop verses through a speedy envelope, “Beretta Lake” is revolutionized into an electronic, afro-centric feat. Leaving no stone unturned, the ever so allusive juuku continues to solidify himself as a thrilling act to watch.
