BALKAN BUMP - GIVE ME SOMETHING TO FUNK (FEAT. KELLY FINNIGAN)

Music, Original MixAlli LindseyComment

Oakland hustling, trumpet wizard Balkan Bump is refurbishing an antique genre that stands as a pillar in the black arts movement of the 1960s. Born from the cadences of jazz, gospel, and the blues, funk music is regarded as a revolution in and of itself. Lowtemp signee, Balkan Bump fuses the old school genre with the electric sounds of 2018, while simultaneously manifesting a vision unique to his aesthetic. His latest single, “Give Me Something To Funk” featuring Kelly Finnigan is a full-bodied banger, saturated with brass delicacies and unfettered production. Defined by swaths of thunderous, rich melodies, and resounding drops and turns, “Give Me Something To Funk” shines at the apex of future funk. JENAUX & BRYCE FOX - SENTIMENTS

Music, Original MixMike DooseComment

“Future funk” producer Jenaux and Bryce Fox are a match made in electronic collaborator heaven on “Sentiments”. Fox’s bright yet soulful, gritty vocals are a perfect complement to the dense combination of deep-grooving synths, piano hits, guitar licks and drums. I never really imagined blending funk vibes with the builds and drops of future/EDM, but Jenaux proves that with the right swung rhythms on your sidechains and vocal chops you can induce a fun “funk face” in your listeners and get them bobbing their heads.

THANKS - I CAN GET (BASTION REMIX)

Music, RemixMike DooseComment

Talk about a fresh funky dance jam! It’s been out for a couple weeks now, but I couldn’t let this one go unnoticed. While I hadn’t heard the original “I Can Get” by Danish duo THANKS until being sent this, I’m now a fan of both the original and this hyped up bouncy retro French Electro/House edit from Parisian duo BASTION. This is the kind of jam that I feel would even earn the respect of funk masters like James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, and the Ohio Players. Excuse me while I get down in my kitchen to this right now.
